Lokrum

Nature reserve offering peace, quite and tranquility

Lokrum is a 10minute boat ride, South East of Dubrovnik and can be seen perfectly from the city walls. We spent a gorgeous day exploring the island. The surrounding beauty cannot be described. Lokrum is a Nature Reserve and a Special Forest Vegetation Reserve. We spent a perfect day exploring the beautiful Botanical Garden and spending time along an incredible small lake called Mrtvo More (Dead Sea), which is a unique lake linked with the sea, and is crystal clear and calm. We spent most of the morning lazing on the rocks having a picnic of cheese and fruit and lapping up the sun. The remainder of the afternoon we walked around the entire island. If you take it slowly its about a 4 hour walk including all the stops and detours you can take to explore all sides of the island. From parts of the Island you can even see the old city walls and red roofs of the old city in Durbrovnik. We also encountered peacocks and rabbits and other small wild but friendly animals and watched as boats set sail. Lokrum is an uninhabited island and so with the sun setting we had to say goodbye to this gorgeous little Island and head back on our boat to Dubrovnik. Click here to return home.
